Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
